WEEK 6: Linda Kardamis encourages teachers to nourish their brains and their souls!, in her online blog, "Teach 4 the Heart"
I really like Linda's website - it is super encouraging, uplifting, positive, pertinent to tired teachers, and helpful! I also love the fact that she has a Christian perspective, which offers some real good words of wisdom and relatable advice for other Christian teachers!
The first article that pulled my attention was her article 10 Traits of Impactful Christian Teachers that talks about how to effectively reach students in a way that has a lasting effect upon them outside of the 4 walls of your classroom through a God-centered approach. Her main point is that no success we gain is from anything we do on our own. Success with students, reaching them, inspiring them, changing their lives, seeing them dream big and beat the odds, are all things that come about from a heart that is connected to God. Life flows from a relationship with Him, and that doesn't become untrue when we step into our jobs. I love this, because I so identify with her words and live by them as well! It's refreshing to me to hear a fellow Teacher who has a Christian perspective on the side of her career where she has already had experience in the classroom, whereas I have no experience in the classroom yet, but I share the same perspective as her.
Another resource of encouragement that I am JAZZED about on Linda's website "Teach 4 the Heart," is the Resource called "Classroom Management 101." It's a series of videos that discuss all the best management techniques Linda has accumulated throughout her years of teaching in the classroom. She prefaces the Promo video with her reasoning behind doing the series: she first began her teaching career feeling like she had very little control over her class, as well as hadn't any idea of how to set good boundaries and forward-thinking guidelines in order to rear good behavior in her students that would keep the class from becoming mismanaged. This series of videos isn't free, but it sounds like something that would be worth paying for and is something that I will actually look into to downloading for my own pedagogical development! I personally get a little frightened when I hear about managing a classroom, because with the experiences I have had with children in leadership roles, management hasn't always been my strong point. I am convinced that the more I read of other teachers' works on this subject, the more I will learn, and the more I learn, the more knowledge I will have to back myself up when I'm gaining experience. So this page on Linda's website is super encouraging to me! :)
This page on "Teach 4 the Heart" is a great example of how Linda is using technology in her Educational career! She has made this wonderful resource available to many people by making it into video format. The modules are easy to access and are user-friendly, because they are split up into approximately 10-minute videos, which seems like a concise amount of time and easy to watch one here, and watch one there.
I will definitely revisit Linda's website many many times!
